World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. item upgrades 's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.
On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its value. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's real item level.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl as the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn increased by the player's skill.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will have at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
item upgrades of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be purchased from the shop or made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5percent.
The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
